My group, “The Usuals,” played Bellevue’s Ground Zero last night. It ended up being an open jam, but a solid 85% was pretty tasty. Hopefully I’ll get some recordings up soon…

I had the opportunity to see Gretchen Parlato live last night at The Triple Door. Phenomenal show. If you haven’t checked out her album “In A Dream,” do so now. She had Taylor Eigsti, Alan Hampton, and Kendrick Scott backing and they were killin. Taylor is the man. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting him several times and playing with him once. Always a pleasure…

Also, I’m reading Percy. Walker Percy. If you have read Percy, you know what I am currently experiencing… Self-reflection and examination is fully underway! Boohyah!!!

PS. She\’s amazing. Check it. Buy the new album. I did. It’s worth every penny.

I’m seventeen years old. I am a proud resident of Seattle, WA. And I love music like Obama loves democracy.

The primary function of this blog will be for me to tell people about the cool stuff that I am experiencing musically. I listen constantly and I want other people to be given the chance to experience music the way I am experiencing it right now. As a senior in high school, I am only on the cusp of adulthood, and music, jazz specifically, has already been revealed to me as one the most vibrant and necessary American traditions we have. From Benny Goodman to Miles Davis to Michael Brecker, jazz musicians have always helped define their times. It’s hip, it’s fresh, and it’s what I’m passionate about.

I look forward to sharing that passion with you.
